What you are looking for: A chance to learn the basics of nature/healing magic or a chance of becoming an apprentice to train in the arts.
Event suggestion:
Perhaps the elf stumbles onto a wandering druid of some sorts in the woods and inquires about teaching magic? Or some mystical creature shows her the magicks?
Why is your character trying to do this: Seeing as elves are naturally magically attuned AND are creatures that worship/respect nature, it'd be natural for her to seek the means of indulging into it more. The natural knack she has for all things logical (intelligence ma n), she finds magic absolutely intriguing.
